All walks start at 2.30pm at the TOP of the West Hill Lift and proceed gently downhill, taking about 90 minutes. Join us for a fascinating tour of Hastings Old Town, the premier ancient Cinque Port, with its wealth of medieval, Tudor and later historic buildings. Many are hidden in narrow passages, known here as Twittens often unseen by tourists. Many of these buildings have fascinating histories.Learn about the important part Hastings played in piracy and smuggling.Find out why celebrities flocked to Hastings, many settling permanently in the town. Artists including Turner and the Pre-Raphaelites came and delighted in painting local scenes. It has been said that there are more paintings of Hastings than of any other English resort! Hastings also attracted famous authors such as Byron, Keats, the Rossettis, Dickens, Lewis Carroll and Catherine Cookson. It is a town steeped in history, going back to long before 1066 and forward beyond its front-line position in the Second World War.
